Does this happen on engagemedia.org or another Plumi site? Also which browser do you use? I haven't met this bug with firefox/chromium/opera since 4.3

It's just firefox. Chrome autoloads the whole video for me, safari loads a small buffer, FF spins and spins.

Actually I'm pretty sure we don't want to autoload in any browser, given that our <iframe> tag would then autoload in the same exact manner yes?
Because of pages such as this one: http://annahelme.com/2008/03/
This has EM videos that are part of blog posts. If someone pastes in a number of embedded videos into one page, or inadvertently in a list of blog posts such as this one, then all the videos would autoload, downloading an annoying amount of data all at once.

We have updated mediaelement js to the latest version (2.6.5), so this issue might be solved as well

This issue is not resolved in Firefox on OS X.

Which version of firefox are you using? In Firefox v10.0 under Ubuntu I can't see the problem. Did you try to flush your browser cache?
In any case there is not much we can do, other than wait for the next mediaelement.js version and upgrade again.
