It sounds like this would make transcode daemon more stable. As we have still been encountering transcoding problems (such as late Nov 2010) then we should prioritise this.
Unweb - how long is this change likely to take? This will help us prioritise it.
Currently I'm putting this in the 4.3 milestone - but given the re-design may be shifted back, this could happen earlier.
